Between 25 September and 5 October 3 trainings took place on Life Skills Education.

All 55 agriculture teacher trainers from 25 Teacher Training Centers (Provincial, Regional and Pre-school) joined a refresh training on Organic Gardening, Fish and Chicken Raising at the Provincial Teacher Trainer Center (PTTC) in Siem Reap. Provincial Teacher Training Centers teach the future primary school teachers and the future secondary school teachers are being trained at the Regional Teacher Training Centers.

The second training in Siem Reap was organized for all 40 environment teacher trainers of all 18 PTTCs which refreshed information on environmental problems following the improved Environmental Education teaching manual. During these 2 trainings the Agriculture and Environment Life Skills Box was handed over to all PTTCs and RTTCs. The box contains teaching aids to support the life skills lessons described in the manuals like role play cards, case studies, word cards for matching activities, experiment equipment and books with background information. Also posters on topics like the food chain, pH Indicators, climate change and chicken raising were handed over. All materials support the teacher trainers in their preparation for a good life skills lesson.

The third workshop was organised for earth science, biology and environmental teacher trainers from all 6 RTTCs to join the training on Water and Waste pollution awareness. A total of around 40 teacher trainers. It was held at the Regional Teacher Training Center in Kandal (RTTC).

The facilitators of these trainings are teacher trainers from PTTC Siem Reap and RTTC Kandal. They have been involved in the development of the Life Skills teaching manuals since the start of the SEAL programme (Science, Agricultural and Environmental Life skills).  These teacher trainers showed a variety of student centered teaching techniques during the workshops such as presentations, experiments, educational games, group discussions, debate and field practise. All these approaches help to create interactive lessons for student teachers.

Apart from gaining content knowledge participants were also given the opportunity to practice how to use documentary videos in their lessons. There was time to practice how to connect equipment like LCD-screens, DVD-players to laptops and TVs and ideas were provided how to have a meaningful discussion after watching video clips on topics like overfishing, deforestation and the use of chemical fertilizers. During the training the Life Skills box with teaching aids was explained and used.

All participants received a certificate signed and stamped by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport for joining life skills trainings in 2011 and 2012. At the start of the new school year Life Skills teacher trainers now have a sufficient base, an updated teaching manual and teaching aids to be able to teach interactive lessons for the topics Agriculture and Environment to the student teachers.
