History

VVOB has been active in Kenya since 1989 and works as a partner and enabler in the fields of education, training and capacity building. We have partnered with the Kenya Ministry of Education to improve quality of education in areas such as environmental education, HIV/AIDS & life skills training, training of secretaries and training of primary school teachers through distance learning.
How
To achieve this, we have joined hands with educational institutions such as teacher training colleges, curriculum development centres, technical schools and learning resource centres. VVOB also collaborates with medical training schools in Kenya, national agricultural research centers through the World Agroforestry Centre and the National Museum of Kenya.
ICT as a tool
Through our two main subprogrammes: Healthy Learning in primary schools and ICT Integration in Education, most of our projects have an ICT component.
Between the years 2002 to 2007, we had an Interactive Public Programmes at the National Museum of Kenya whereby multimedia presentations and interactive games were used for communication with members of the public who were visiting the exhibitions.
We have used internet research to train teachers to develop and offer a new Higher Diploma in Education Management at the Kenya Technical Teachers Training College (KTTC). Our initiatives at the Kenya Polytechnic: "PolyGIS" developed skills and infrastructure for GIS training, "PolyCAsE" that focuses on Computer Assisted Engineering.
At the Kenya Education Staff Institute (KESI), we have developed a management information system to monitor and evaluate their training courses for managers.
VVOB staff has been involved in the development of the Guidelines on ICT Integration for the new pre-service Primary Teachers Training Curriculum (2005) and was engaged for the writing of the National ICT Strategy (launched in July 2006).
We have supported the Ministry of Education for its national "e-readiness survey", in preparation of our new programmes (from 2008 onwards) on ICT Integration for Improved Quality of Education.
Essential to all these "projects" is capacity building and skills development.
