VVOB supported education in Kenya from 1988-2013. During this period, VVOB in Kenya provided lecturers at national universities, doctors for district hospitals, and thereafter, cooperation with diverse institutions in development of skills labs, ICT support, as well as agricultural training. Between 2008 and 2013, VVOB supported the Kenya Education Sector Support Plan through two interventions, i.e.: the Healthy Learning Programme and the ICT Integration in Education Programme.

In 2016, Kenya put forward an ambitious competence-based curriculum (CBC) reform, seeking to ensure the education system equips learners with 21st century skills. The Kenya Ministry of Education subsequently conducted teacher training to support the rollout of the new curriculum. However, there was need to enhance the capacity of school leaders to effectively lead the change process.

To address this need, VVOB renewed its commitment to support education Kenya, in 2021. VVOB has partnered with the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) to develop and implement an app-based blended learning trajectory for school leaders through the ‘INCREASE’ programme (2022-2026). ‘INCREASE’ - Implementing National Curriculum Reforms through App-based learning for school leaders in Secondary Education, aims at equipping school leaders with strong instructional leadership skills to effectively support teachers and the school community in the implementation of the CBC.
