The move towards a National ICT innovation and Integration Centre

Preparations for the formation of a National ICT Innovation and Integration Centre at Kenya Science are now on course. A team of consultants have been appointed and began the coordination of the set up and different activities at the centre. The setup preparations are scheduled to run till December 2010.

The National ICT Innovation and Integration Centre is a Ministry of Education incentive to integrate ICT at all educational levels. The aim is to make the centre the hub of capacity development for effective use of ICT in education sector. The development of this facility will be a collaborative effort with other stakeholders such as ICT Trust Fund, VVOB among others.

The objective of this mission is to develop a centre of excellence to identify and drive ICT innovations and their integration in all aspects of education within and outside the Ministry of Education. Specifically, the centre aims to:

  • develop and demonstrate the application of ICT technologies and new pedagogic/didactic aspects of ICT in learning, teaching and management;
  • develop and show case different solutions and scenarios in the deployment of ICT integration at the school level;
  • test new “ICT Innovations and Integration”, ideas and experiments for use by teachers and learners;
  • provide advice and support to schools and field offices in their efforts to develop and implement ICT driven programme activities and integration processes.
