Healthy Learning model shared at the Global Child Nutrition Forum

On 5th May 2011, delegates taking part in the 13th annual Global Child Nutrition Forum (GCNF) hosted in Nairobi - Kenya from 3rd – 7th May visited 2 Healthy Learning schools in Kajiado District.
The theme of the forum was linking school feeding with agriculture development to maximize food security. The school visits were therefore aimed to familiarize delegates with various models contributing towards sustaining the school meals programme.
Primary Boys Boarding School (PBS) and Nkoile Primary School have been implementing the Healthy Learning programme since the year 2008. The two schools are also under the Home Grown School Meals programme supported by the government.
Nkoile Primary School is implementing a poultry project while PBS is undertaking a steers fattening project. Overall, delegates were impressed by the effort put in by the two schools to sustain the school meals programme while making learning experiential.
Marketplace session
Immediately after the school visits, delegates took part in a market place session where various organizations exhibited their work. The market place provided a unique opportunity for the Healthy Learning programme team to share ideas with other delegates who did not visit Healthy Learning schools.
GCNF brought together high level technical, government and development partners from 22 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and other regions. The forum was co-sponsored by the Global Child Nutrition Foundation and the Partnership for Child Development (PCD). The Healthy Learning team was also part of the technical committee responsible for the success of the forum.
