Deputy Director General Mr Themba Kojana and Programme Manager Dr Wilfried Theunis, signed a letter of intent (April 20, 2016) to formalise the intention of a further 5 year cooperation between DBE and VVOB.

The Department of Basic Education, DBE, and VVOB wish to continue the good cooperation for at least 5 more years.
In the present programme the cooperation is centered around Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of Educators, with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) at the heart of CPD and a focus on numeracy. Deliberations with partners and the priorities of DBE indicate that one of the priorities is Inclusive Education (in the broad sense, e,g, poverty, language, disabilities or gender may lead to barriers to learning depending on the environment).
Inclusive Education needs to be better addressed for educators in Initial Teacher Education as well as in CPD. The 2017 – 2021 VVOB programme will take this into account and focus on Inclusive Education in CPD, including a continuation of the present efforts on leadership for CPD and PLCs.  This will mean closer cooperation with most if not all DBE branches of the directorates of Teacher Development and Curriculum Management.

The 2017 – 2021 VVOB programme thus intends to continue the present work, but focus more on inclusivity in the proposed activities with DBE, the South African Council for Educators (SACE) and the Provincial Departments of Education, including the long standing partnership with the Free State DoE.
