We previously reported on the capacity development of School Management Teams (SMTs) of 20 primary and secondary schools in Lejweleputswa on effective leadership.

VVOB contracted the services to the Billion Child Foundation (BCF) for the facilitation of a programme which consists of four workshops, spread over four months and on-site support.

On 10 August 2016 SMTs gathered for the fourth and last workshop. This workshop focused on leadership for change. They discussed how to motivate people and manage self-motivation. They learned how to improve the effectiveness of class visits and make sure that each teacher is fully supported in improving her/his practice. School leaders added recruitment techniques to their toolkit and looked at how they can market their schools and attract donations. Schools reflected on what they want to be famous for.

These topics are all part of the BCF Highly Performing Public Schools Toolbox, which enables each participating school to become a high performance school.

Participants presented changes that took place at their schools based on some interventions that were put in place.

The workshop ended with a celebration of what was learned. Each participant received a certificate of completion. This training is endorsed by SACE. This means that all participants will get professional development points for their participation.
