Nghe An and Quang Nam are the two partner provinces in the new programme on career guidance. In order to guide the upcoming activities, which include the review and revision of the career orientation programme and vocational skills taster programmes in secondary education, key stakeholders in both provinces convened to articulate their vision on career guidance.

The two workshops took place on 16 March in Vinh (Nghe An) and on 21 March in Hoi An (Quang Nam). Participants in each province included representatives from the People’s Committee, Department of Education and Training (DOET), (district) Bureau’s of Education and Training (BOETs), Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA), Women’s Union, Centres for General Techniques and Career Guidance (CGTCGs), Centres for Continuous Education and Career Guidance (CCECGs) and lower- and upper-secondary schools.

The objective of the workshops was to define how the different stakeholders see the concept of career guidance. To that purpose they studied the current career guidance for secondary education in Vietnam, together with some international examples (Flanders (VCLB), Hong Kong, New Zealand) and contemporary theoretical frameworks. They discussed the goals for career guidance in their province and deliberated on how those could be translated to the operational level within their current context. They used a five year window to discuss these issues.

VVOB cooperated with experts connected to the Institute for Educational Research of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy. The Lego Serious Play method inspired the facilitation of a number of the sessions.

Two provincial vision documents are being prepared and will be discussed during a workshop in Hanoi at the end of April, involving national and international stakeholders. The consolidated vision documents will be made available on this website by that time.
