Nghe An and Quang Nam are trying to achieve their Career Guidance visions and VVOB is supporting by developing a manual called: “Career Guidance Management at Secondary Education”. This manual aims to provide Educational managers knowledge and reference tools to assist them in managing their school Career guidance program. The manual was designed in three parts: 1/ Overview of Career Guidance at Secondary Education; 2/ Basic knowledge on Career Guidance; and 3/ Knowledge and skills on career guidance management in secondary education.

To ensure that the manual will be user-friendly VVOB Vietnam organised a workshop, on October 6th 2012, to consult on the content and structure of the draft manual. The 26 participants of this workshop came from the Departments of Education and Training (DOETs), Bureaus of Education and Training (BOETs), Secondary Education Schools, Centres for General Techniques and Career Orientation (CCOs) and Women’s Union of Nghe An and Quang Nam.

Objectives of the workshop were to agree on:

  • objectives of the manual
  • roles and competencies required for a career guidance manager at secondary education
  • structure and content of the manual

To reach these objectives, there were 4 main activities:

  • Activity 1: determine  competencies required for career guidance management by using LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method
  • Activity 2: Comment on structure and content of the draft manual (in group)
  • Activity 3: Re-structure the draft manual in the most suitable way
  • Activity 4: Evaluate the manual by filling in individual questionnaires

The participants were very  active and worked effectively. There were many valuable and appropriate comments. In general, the participants agreed with the content of the draft manual and recommended to keep all of the content. They recommended to not use word “manual”, and proposed to title the “manual” “Material on Career Guidance Management for Secondary Education”. Other comments focussed on re-structuring some sections and making some cuts in part 3.

The writers agreed with these comments and recommendations and they will revise the manual accordingly for the next Training of Trainers on Career Guidance Management for Secondary Education.
