The workshop Improving the links among family, school and society in supporting children to learn actively took place in the afternoon November 1, 2012, at Le Loi Secondary School, Hoành Bồ district, Quang Ninh province. The workshop was jointly organized by the school and district Woman Union with the support from VVOB Vietnam.

The workshop focused on very practical issues such as the role of the form teacher as a bridge between the school and society, the role of families in supporting children to learn actively, and the role of mass organizations in cooperation with the school, etc. The workshop attracted attention of all the stakeholder such as Quang Ninh DOET, Hoanh Bo BOET, the local Youth Union, the police, the local Education Promotion Board, Parent Association and students – those who will be directly benefit from similar activities.

Presenting at the workshop, teacher Đinh Thị Liên who has many experience of working as a form teacher shared that despite the heavy workload of a teacher, she has always been trying to visit students’ families, especially in cases of difficult students. Regular communication with students’ families via telephone is another way to strengthen much the link between the school and families. Mrs. Đỗ Thị Hường, chairwoman of Le Loi commune Woman Union believed that the “workshop was really useful, being an opportunity for different stakeholders view the cooperation activities in a full picture and might help find ways to promote the link among family, school and society”. Mrs, Đới Thị Bảy, a representative of the Parent Association shared about her willingness to participate in similar activities and said that thanks to the workshop, she now knew better how to support her children to learn actively.

Le Loi Secondary School, Hoanh Bo district, Quang Ninh province has proved to be an good example of improving the links among family, school and society, a sub-topic in socialization of education and it is expected to bring positive changes in the teaching and learning of at the school.
