From July 19 to July 21, EM coordinator made a field trip to Quang Ngai and Quang Nam province. This trip served several purposes:
- M&E multiplication workshops in Problem-based learning organized by Quang Ngai and Quang Nam DOETs;
- Together with Quang Nam DOET’s representative participate in a club activity in Tam Phuoc commune, Phu Ninh district, Quang Nam province as a step in the co-operation between DOET and WU;
- Discuss with the PPU members from Quang Ngai and Quang Nam DOET of the planning for 2012-2013;
- The program manager requested to use the opportunity to ask some questions regarding primary education.
Multiplication workshops were organized properly. The DOETs and BOETs did pay attention to every aspect of the training to ensure a better training quality. At this stage, both trainers and participants are familiar with active teaching and learning and both trainings in Quang Nam and Quang Ngai were delivered in quite an active way.
In total, in July and beginning of August 2012, 40 multiplication trainings in Problem-based learning have been organized in these two provinces with the participation of about 1.200 vice-principals, subject teachers and teachers. VVOB’s name has become familiar with lower secondary educational managers and teachers. Several participants were interviewed and said that the workshop and the manual are highly appreciated in terms of relevance and usefulness. Still, it is expected that by the end of the year, an online questionnaire will be used for 15 districts (3 districts from each province) to further explore the impact of this training on teaching practice in lower secondary schools.
For the second phase, we expected a closer cooperation between DOETs and WUs. The participation of DOET’s representative in a club activity in Tam Phuoc commune, Phu Ninh district, Quang Nam province on July 22, 2012 together with EM coordinator, could contribute to this. The presence of DOET’s representative gives these activities to some extent a more formal characteristic, encouraging student parents to more actively take part in education process. Moreover, the club model has been recognized by DOETs as an important factor contributing to improving the quality of learning through more involvement of parents in the education of their children. The fact that the article of club activities in Tam Phuoc commune, Phu Ninh district, Quang Nam province has been posted on Quang Nam DOET’s website illustrates that the club model is recognized by DOET and that there is a closer cooperation between DOET and WU. The M&E trip was used as an opportunity to briefly discuss with DOETs their planning for the school year 2012-2013 in order to align VVOB activities and to collect some information regarding primary education.
