In guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training, teachers are requested to integrate environmental into different subjects. Nevertheless, many teachers find it difficult to select appropriate methods to integrate environmental education in an effective way. With support from VVOB Vietnam, a group of lecturers from different teacher training institutes in Vietnam, have improved their capacity and gained experience with environmental education and the teaching methodologies enhancing environmental education.

In the framework of collaboration between VVOB and GIZ, one of those lecturers - Ms Nguyen Thi Xung (lecturer of Quang Ninh Teacher Training Institute), and one VVOB coordinator were invited to provide input on the methodology of environmental education integration in the workshop “Improving the quality of environmental education materials and developing teaching aids” organized by GIZ in Bac Lieu Province from 26th to 27th of June. There were more than 40 teachers from lower and upper secondary schools in different districts of Bac Lieu province who participated in the workshop. Ms Nguyen Thi Xung gave an overview on the different concepts of integration of environmental education into the curriculum and examples of her mini project on coastal area resources (an activity supported by VVOB). During hands-on practice sessions, workshop participants reflected on how different methodologies such as learning station, mindmapping, Webquest, Problem Based Learning and story telling could be applied to integrate environmental education in their lessons. The input provided by the VVOB degelation received positive feedback from GIZ staff as well as from the workshop participants.
