The topic of innovations in evaluation of students’ performance has been the focus of MOET for long, especially now, when certain schools in Vietnam have starting their participation in the Programme for International Student Assessment initiated and managed by OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development). Having recognized its importance, VVOB Vietnam and 5 partner DOETs have decided to choose it to be one of three topics of special focus in 2012.

From September 13 to September 15, 2012, VVOB Vietnam organized a TOT workshop for LSS Principals about Innovations in Evaluation of Students’ Performance in Hanoi with the participation of 38 members of the core groups from the five DOETs.

The workshop aims at:

  • Introducing the manual LSS Principals with Innovations in Evaluation of Students’ Performance to the core group from DOETs;
  • Getting feedback about the manual from the core group to integrate in the final document;
  • Discussing with the core group the plan and related issues for follow-up multiplication workshops;

Participants actively took part in discussions of innovations in evaluation of students’ performance, advantages and challenges that they might have to face in applying the new approach of evaluating students, fully recognizing their responsibility in the role of a school manager. The active methods used by trainers during the workshop made the workshop lively and this was one more chance for the participants to learn about active teaching and learning in general so that they can apply later in their multiplication workshops.

After this TOT workshop the five DOETs will organize multiplication workshops for all the school managers in five provinces during the period of October-December, 2012, contributing to the process of capacity building for educational managers at lower secondary schools.

The meeting was also be used to introduce the manual Strengthening the Links among Family, School and Society, Promoting Socialization of Education. This manual will be introduced to school managers during the up-coming multiplication workshops in the form of a short presentation of the background, the process of material development, its objectives and contents. The introduction of this manual to both educational managers and members of WUs at different level is expected to build capacity in this specific topic of three related stakeholders - family, school and the society.
