Early Education Programme (2014-2016)

The Early Education programme ran in four Northen and Central provinces of Vietnam. It focused on active teaching and learning, gender, and transition from Early Childhood Education to Primary education. The operational partners of the programme were the Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators and the Vietnam Women’s Union at the national level, and Departments of Education and Training, Teacher Training Institutes and Vietnam Women’s Union. The programme supported these institutes to improve their capacity through a tailored capacity development trajectory relevant for each partner, focusing on different levels – management, core group members and implementers, shifting from high level of intervention to low level of intervention over the years.

Career Guidance Programme (2011-2015)

The Career Guidance Programme aimed at improving quality of career guidance for secondary education in four North and Centre provinces of Vietnam (Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Nghe An and Thai Nguyen), with partnersof national level (Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators, Secondary Education Department, Vietnam Women’s Union) and provincial level (Department of Education and Training in Nghe An and Quang Nam, Women’s Union in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Nghe An and Thai Nguyen Provinces). Through the partners, the programme built capacity for school leaders, teachers and parent club facilitators to work with and support male and female secondary education students to make well-informed decision on their study and career choice. By doing so, it contributed to improving the quality and relevance of vocational education delivered by secondary schools.

Basic Education Programme (2008-2013)

The education programme took place in five provinces in North and Central Vietnam. It aimed to improve the quality of education by promoting the use of Active Teaching and Learning (ATL) methods. It was implemented by cooperating mainly with three partners: the Teacher Training Institutes (TTIs), Departments of Education and Training (DOETs) and Women’s Union (WU). Each of these institutes improved capacity at different levels: management, trainers and implementers (principals, teachers, college lecturers, club leaders and facilitators).Where possible, the programme supported the partner to reach the next level target groups (college students, club members being parents).

Agricultural Extension Programme (2008-2012)

The PAEX (Participatory Agricultural EXtension) programme in Vietnam started in 2008 as the continuation of two earlier projects in 2001-2007.

In line with the national policy (decree 56, MARD circular 60) PAEX contributed to an extension system that addresses the needs of the farmers. Farmers and extension personnel need skills to be able to play their role in an extension system that is based on real farmers’ needs. To support this development, VVOB collaborated with the Agricultural Extension Centre, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Women’s Unions and Farmers’ Associations in five provinces of South Vietnam.
These interventions were phased out by the end of 2012 following the strategic decision of VVOB to concentrate on formal education.
