Next to education programmes, VVOB was also implementing an agricultural extension programme in Vietnam. This intervention was handed over to the partners in 2012.

The Education For All Global Monitoring Report (EFA GMR) added a section on its web portal for resources and other updates on 'Education post-2015'. This refers to targets for the period after the Millennium Development Goal on 'Universal Primary Education'.

In March 2013, Rwanda’s Ministry of Education formally launched the 26 projects supported by Innovation for Education Rwanda. This is a partnership between the governments of Rwanda and the United Kingdom. The goal is to increase the quality of education in Rwanda through innovation. The project proposal of VVOB Rwanda is one of the laureates for a grant.

From March 10 to March 15 a unique VVOB seminar took place in Blankenberge, Belgium. More than 88 employees from all partner countries gathered for the seminar 'one.vvob.be!'. Together they explored their activities.

In response, UNESCO through its Institute for Statistics (UIS) and the Center for Universal Education (CUE) at the Brookings Institution have co-convened the Learning Metrics Task Force (LMTF).

The latest edition of the Global Education Digest reveals the urgent need to address the high numbers of children repeating grades and leaving school before completing primary or lower secondary education.

The 'Quality Education and Vulnerability Programme' supports student groups such as peer educator clubs and environmental clubs in all teacher education colleges of Zimbabwe. They can address vulnerability issues through co-curricular activities in the colleges and outreach activities in neighbouring communities.

On September 27th 2012, PAEX (Participatory Agricultural Extension Programme in Vietnam) organised its closing workshop in Vung Tau city. Goal was to assess the impacts of the programme on the extension network and hand over materials to the partners.

When the Vietnamese Women’s Museum (VWM) planned to set up a place full of excitement and educational activities for children and adolescents, VVOB Vietnam was happy to support the realisation of this idea.

Every year on October 5th, we celebrate the World Teachers' Day. It is an opportunity to celebrate the profession and to promote international standards for the teaching profession.

In August 2012, two papers on the design, implementation and evaluation of capacity development programmes in VVOB partner institutes in Asia were published. You can find them in the special issue of the 'Australasian Journal of Educational Technology' (AJET) on 'Building the ICT capacity of the next generation of teachers in Asia'. All children are different; they develop and learn in different ways. When starting at school, they have different backgrounds and different starting contexts. They all want to grow and learn. This usually goes well, but sometimes extra support is needed.

Early 2012, ten photographers set out on a journey. Their mission was extremely challenging; to grasp the impact of VVOB's education programmes on the everyday lives of children and youngsters. The result is an impressive and colourful range of interpretations, perspectives and ideas.

From February until May 2012, Griet Vandeburie, student biology – physics education at Artevelde University College Ghent (AHS), spent three months at the Regional Teacher Training Centre in Kandal. For her internship she worked together with two teams of Cambodian students during their ‘practicum’ or internship at local schools.

In April a new issue of 'NORRAG News' was published. NORRAG is an international network that provides feedback on education and gives advice on education and training. It is supported by among others the British and the Swiss Development Cooperation.

In March 2012 VVOB Ecuador published its second newsletter (in Spanish). The focus of this edition are some recent video productions.

The 'Young People, Farming and Food Conference' organised a media competition in Africa. An article about the Healthy Learning Programme in Kenya, won the silver medal. The competition was looking for articles from across the continent that combine the themes 'youth', 'agriculture' and 'food'.

To mark International Women’s Day, UNESCO and the UIS have jointly released the 'World Atlas of Gender Equality in Education'. It includes over 120 maps, charts and tables featuring a wide range of sex-disaggregated indicators.
