About

‘Education for Development’

The Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance (VVOB) was founded in 1982 as a non-profit organisation. VVOB’s motto ‘Education for Development’ reveals its overall objective to contribute to poverty reduction and to a fairer world with increased opportunities for all. The organisation’s main aim is to sustainably improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of education and training in developing countries.

Capacity Development

VVOB is an organisation for development that operates mainly by order of the Flemish and Belgian governments. Our practice is to develop the capacity of our partner institutions and to bestow local sustainability. To accomplish this, we offer, among others, technical assistance through expatriate and local experts.

Funding

We operate largely with funds granted by the Belgian and Flemish governments.

VVOB’s annual budget for each country programme varies between €700,000 and €1,100,000.

Cooperation

On behalf of the Flemish and Belgian governments, VVOB cooperates in a variety of ways with both national and international non-governmental and governmental organisations.

Organisational Structure

VVOB is consisted of three platforms: policy management, Brussels head office management and the respective organisation of the programmes in our partner countries.

A Bridge between Hemispheres

As a unique organisation with establishment in Flanders and operations in the South, we are able to bridge the North and the South for various projects and initiatives. Among others, we offer internships in our programmes in the South and schools in Flanders and in our partner developing countries can engage with one another by means of VVOB’s programme SchoolLinks.
