The 'Centre for continuing training in Suriname' (Cenasu) is a fact. The Minister of Education, Raymond Sapoen, unveiled the logo of this institute on November 11th. The objective of the Cenasu is the professionalisation of the people involved in education.

The minister believes that the opening of this institute is a major step forward in achieving quality education. "Quality education is delivered by competent and qualified teachers. Well-functioning support services are essential."

The realisation of the Cenasu was one of the priorities of the Round Table Conference held in February 2010 by the teachers' unions. There is said, among others, that ongoing training for teachers is needed to improve the quality of education.

The Cenasu aims at being a centre that provides support to and implement all activities in the field of education, training and development of all those directly involved in the education process. These include school boards, staff of the Ministry, educational institutions, NGOs, parents' associations and all primary schools.
