A message from VVOB to all partners and future friends -

The SDG 4 deadline of 2030 is approaching fast, and a lot is left to be done. We’ve lost precious time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite our best efforts to continue supporting governments, teachers and school leaders, there is no denying that we’re eager to move onwards and upwards, taking with us some crucial lessons learnt. For example, our focus on learning through play has increased; as has our focus on quality blended learning approaches to reach as many teachers and school leaders as possible, however remote.

Our approach to moving “onwards and upwards” rings true to you and many of our other partners too. In February, we got exciting news that we were to receive our largest grant to date, 55 million dollars, from Belgium, a key financial supporter. Adding onto existing investments from other valued financial partners, this 5-year programme cycle will undoubtedly catalyse VVOB’s push towards deepening, broadening and scaling up our efforts for SDG 4 in the aftermath of the COVID-crisis. Teachers and school leaders will remain, as always, front and centre of our efforts. Without them, there is no achieving SDG 4 at all.

In 2022, we find ourselves in the aftermath of a pandemic, surrounded by likeminded organisations who are willing to partner with us in our efforts to realise quality education for all. This prompted some deep and critical self-reflection. We’ve come a long way, evolving into an international expert organisation counting 250+ staff of some 20 nationalities. It was time to rearrange our thoughts and ambitions: In what ways can we, VVOB, contribute most to achieving the 2030 Agenda? What is our specific value for SDG 4? How can we be of most service to learners, teachers, school leaders and ministries of education?

These questions led to the development of our 2030 strategy: Learning Unlimited. Championing teachers and school leaders for SDG 4. It lays out a clear path, with ambitious yet achievable goals in terms of both projects and organisational development.

Collaborative action and partnerships remain our go-to approach. We want to thank all our partners for their continued trust in our work; and look forward to meeting new friends to achieve SDG 4 together.
